Greek mezzo-soprano Nefeli Kotseli was born in Athens, where she studied piano, music theory and singing at the National Conservatory of Athens (graduating with distinction and first prize for the best performance). She continued her postgraduate studies at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna with Gabriele Lechner and in Lied/ Oratorio with Anton Scharinger. There she sang Mercédès Carmen, Cornelia Giulio Cesare in Egitto, Sesto La Clemenza di Tito and Charlotte Werther. She also performed the role of Dritte Dame Die Zauberflöte at the Schlosstheater Schönbrunn in Vienna, the role of Smaragda in the children’s opera Der Tulifant by Gottfried von Einem and the role of Miss Newkirk in the children’s opera Hilfe, Hilfe die Globolinks by Menotti both at Das MuTh Theater in Vienna with the Vienna Boys Choir.
In 2021 she made her debut at the Wiener Musikverein singing alto solo in Mahler’s 2nd Symphony with the Philharmonie Wien conducted by Vijay Upadhyaya. Nefeli has also appeared as soloist in numerous concerts including Mozart’s Requiem, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Händel’s Messiah, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Philharmonie Wien, as well as Vijay Upadhyaya’s 1st Symphony- “Prayer Flags” with the China National Symphony Orchestra in the Beijing Concert Hall. In 2023 she made her debut with Greek National Opera in the role of Neris in Cherubini’s Medea, conducted by Philippe Auguin and alongside the Medea of Anna Pirozzi. Next engagements with the Greek National Opera included the role of Waltraute in Wagner’s Die Walküre, Ethel in Philippe Hersant’s modern opera Les Éclairs and Mrs Quickly in Verdi’s Falstaff.
From season 2026-2027 Nefeli will be an Ensemble member of Oper Dortmund in Germany.

Die griechische Mezzosopranistin Nefeli Kotseli wurde in Athen geboren und studierte Klavier, Musiktheorie und Operngesang (schloss ihr Studium mit Auszeichnung ab und erhielt den ersten Preis für die außergewöhnliche Leistung) am Nationalen Konservatorium in Athen. Ihr Masterstudium setzte sie an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien bei Gabriele Lechner und im Lied und Oratorium bei Anton Scharinger fort.
In Wien trat Nefeli in mehreren Universitäts Produktionen auf, die im historischen Schlosstheater Schönbrunn und auf den Bühnen des MDW stattfanden: Mercédès (Carmen), Cornelia (Giulio Cesare in Egitto), Sesto (La Clemenza di Tito), Dritte Dame (Zauberflöte) und Charlotte (Werther). Außerdem sang sie die Rolle der Smaragda in der Kinderoper „Der Tulifant“ von Gottfried von Einem und die Rolle der Miss Newkirk in der Kinderoper „Hilfe, Hilfe die Globolinks“ von Menotti, beide am MUTH Theater in Wien mit den Wiener Sängerknaben.
Ιm Jahr 2023 debütierte sie an der Griechischen Nationaloper in der Rolle der Neris in Cherubinis Medea, einer Koproduktion mit der Metropolitan Opera, unter der Leitung von Philippe Auguin. Zu ihren nächsten Engagements an der Griechischen Nationaloper gehörten die Rolle der Waltraute in Wagners Die Walküre, die Éthel in Philippe Hersants moderner Oper Les Éclairs und die Mrs. Quickly in Verdis Falstaff.
Nefeli trat außerdem als Solistin in zahlreichen Konzerten wie Mozarts Requiem, Verdis Requiem, Bachs Weihnachtsoratorium/Magnificat/Messe in h-Moll, Händels Messias, Haydns Theresienmesse, Saint Saëns‘ Oratorio de Noël, Pergolesis Stabat Mater und Beethovens 9. Symphonie mit Philharmonie Wien unter der Leitung von Vijay Upadhyaya und im Teatro Real in Madrid mit dem Orquesta Clásica Santa Cecilia unter der Leitung von Kynan Johns auf. Sie sang auch in Mahlers 2. Symphonie mit dem Athener Staatsorchester im Megaron-Athen-Konzertsaal unter der Leitung von Christoph Eschenbach und das 1 Altsolo in Mahlers 8. Symphonie mit Philharmonie Wien im Wiener Konzerthaus unter der Leitung von Vijay Upadhyaya. Ab der Spielzeit 2026-2027 wird Nefeli Ensemblemitglied der Oper Dortmund sein.
